The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) rank #15 in the United States and #53 globally on Newsweek’s “World’s Best Hospitals 2022,” which ranks 2,200 hospitals in 27 countries based on their consistent excellence, innovation and top talent.

Jennifer Figures had a willing donor named Katie Vreeland, but Vreeland wasn’t a match. In Panama City, Florida, Cindy Rounds wanted to donate to Trey Timmins, but they weren’t a match. So using the National Kidney Registry’s Voucher Program, Rounds donated to Figures, and Vreeland donated to a man in New York.

The Donor Care Network has designated Loyola University Medical Center as a Center of Excellence. The Donor Care Network helps ensure living kidney donors are treated with the utmost courtesy and respect by implementing best practices and recognizing facilities that adhere to their guiding principles. The designation will help Loyola improve patient access to living kidney donor transplants through the National Kidney Registry.

Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) has become the first center in New Jersey and the second in the world to use an innovative imaging technology before surgery to assess living donor kidneys more precisely and comprehensively than conventional imaging techniques, as well as during surgery to help guide the removal of donor kidneys.
