When a person gets a life-saving transplant, it becomes a moment they’ll never forget. And in some cases, it creates a bond between patient and donor.

As part of National Donate Life Month, observed annually in April to drive awareness about the importance of organ, tissue and cornea donations, Allegheny Health Network (AHN) will host several celebrations throughout the month at hospitals across its footprint.

This Valentine’s Day, local organ donors and recipients gathered at AHN Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) to share their stories of generosity, courage and the life-saving power of organ donation. AGH’s annual National Donor Day luncheon and recognition ceremony took place at noon in the hospital’s Magovern Conference Center.

Armed with newer antiviral therapies that quickly cure hepatitis C among organ recipients, AGH protocol paves the way for more patients to receive lifesaving gift.

Clinicians and caregivers at Allegheny General Hospital will welcome nearly 100 members of organ donor families on Friday, April 28 at 11 a.m. for a ceremonial honor walk paying tribute to those who gave the ultimate lifesaving gift of organ donation.

For National Donate Life Month, Allegheny Health Network will hold several events across 10 hospitals to encourage staff, patients, and visitors to learn more about organ donation and how to become a registered organ donor.
